Lost rocks

The wind throws the waves at the beach of Vík, Iceland. The three rocks in the front were probably left by the water. The three pillars in the background are a counterpole. They don't seem to be very impressed by the raging forces.

Pillars of strength

The sunset happened behind the clouds. Nonetheless the stormy winter weather made the scene very impressive, not to say dramatic. The wind was so strong that I was afraid the optics would be sandblasted. Even months later I could still find pieces of sand of the black beach at Vík in my photography backpack.

Floating Iceberg

I spent two mornings at the beach at Jökulsarlón in southern Iceland. That was on a photography workshop with Erez Marom and Iurie Belegurschi.This picture is one of the best, chosen out of hundrets of pictures I took there.

Floodplain

Autumn weather along the Aare river. The water flows quietly while the first birds start their singing. Before sunrise such photos can be taken no need for filters. But I needed fishermen boots because the position from where I took this picture was in the middle of the Suhre stream that flows into the Aare at this location.

Morning Mood at the Aare

Especially during the transitional seasons spring and fall ground fog is present almost every day in the Rohrer Schachen. That is no wonder considering the huge amount of ground and surface water in that pasture landscape. If there is also some dawning you may think you are somewhere in South East Asia.

Fishermen's boat

Blue mood. Far away the incoming storm can be expected. Won't be long before the rain starts, just escaped it.

Play of colors in the water

Little wind and currents in the water lead to varying colors on the surface of the Aarschächli near Aarau. Areas that have little waves reflect the blue skye, flat areas reflect the water's edge.

Mountain stream

Lovely stream scenery as it could be found in many places. The mossy rocks direct the stream, some autumnal leaves add colorful spots to the picture. It was taken at the Leuenfall in the canton Appenzell Innerrhoden in Switzerland.

Leuenfall

A very impressive waterfall in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden, Switzerland, located at Lehmen near the town of Weissbad. Measuring 34 m it is the highest waterfall in the canton. It only takes about 15 minutes from the parking lot on an easy trail to get there. Together with Ambroise Marchand I spent a morning here. It was one of our regular common photography days. Thanks to the newly fallen snow we were the only people there.

Beam

It looks like a beam where the Leuenfall - the highest waterfall in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden, 34 m tall - hits the pool underneath. I have no idea how deep that pool is, but a guy did an incredible world record here: The highest fall in a kajak. And because there was nobody present to testify the jump hat to repeated. No comment on that...

Waterfall at Oeschinensee

The lake Oeschinensee (UNESCO world natural heritage) above Kandersteg in Switzerland is said to be one of the most beautiful alpine lakes of the Alps. You could even think you were in the Canadian Rockies. The rocks were deeply grinded by the ancient glaciers, the cliffs falling vertically to the lake. There are many waterfalls that bring the water of the higher glaciers and snowscapes down to the lake.

Waterfall at Tobelbach

This waterfall in the Töss valley (Switzerland) is very easy to reach and accordingly famous. During winter however, the time I realized this picture, the walk through the ravine should be done with care. Myself I sustained a fall while attempting to reach a second waterfall. So I had to climb up to the trail through mud.

By the way: Hanspeter Gass of The Fabulous View wrote a book about the waterfalls of Canton Zürich. This waterfalls is just one of the many to be discovered in that book. There was a photo contest where he could pick the winners and one of the books was given to me for this picture.

Sunrise in the Sundarbans

Boat in Sundarbans National Park in Bangladesh during sunrise. Although it is a river you cannot see the border of the river in the strong light comming from the opposite direction.

Giants Causeway, Northern Ireland

Longtime exposure during sunset. I made use of my time in Ireland and Northern Ireland to start some photographic experiments like longtime exposure.
