Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland

On my second visit at Bamburgh I shot this picture not long after sunrise. It shows Bamburgh Castle as seen from the rocks near the golf court a little to the north. The clouds broken by some sun beams made this interesting light.

Northern lights at Jökulsárlón, Iceland

In wintertime chances are quite good to see northern lights in Iceland. It was one of the most impressive things I could ever enjoy in nature. There are no words that can describe this phenomenon, pictures don't really show its true nature, you just have to see it with your own eyes.

In densly populated countries like Switzerland agriculture and nature reserves border on each other. As a consequence there are often conflicts. Nonetheless a look to the other side is sometimes very attractive.

Reflections

The view up would have shown some trees with nice foliage and blue sky. On the contrary thanks to the view down a picture with several layers came out, consisting of the reflection and the highlights on the water. This photo was taken during a session with frogs at the Rohrer Schachen near Aarau, Switzerland.

More stars than our eyes can see...

People living in cities are often excited seeing just one star in the skye above. If you ever go to an area in the high mountains or in the desert, far away from any civilization, you might suddenly realize that our planet Earth or our star Sun are just one among many many others. The number of stars you may see is uncountable, and just belong to the Milky Way, our galaxy. And although they are uncountable they are just one corn of sand on the beach of our universe.

Sunset near Linn, Switzerland

After a long break I spent some time on landscape photography. Together with Manfred Stutz I went to Linn (where the largest basswood of Switzerland can be found) and hiked up the hill to a rock in the Jurassic mountains from where the view in western direction is excellent - especially for sunsets. There is always a large risk to go home with no pictures at all, but we were lucky and the sky opend just as much as needed for the sunset. Happily we returned home.

Sunrise above the Pre-Alps

A unexpected sight of the mountain Säntis. I have to admit that I was hoping for or even expecing a sensational sunrise that morning, but I did not expect at all to see Säntis. That was a big surprise. On this picture I could finally fulfill my desire of layered mountain ranges with graduated intensity. To achieve this kind of picture you need to be at the right place at the right time, there is no other way.

Steep rocks surround the narrow piece of soil where these three trees stand agains the forces of nature. A little family with no real perspectives, ready to fall any moment because of snow, storm or rock fall. And still: The do what they have to - life

Nebelstimmung

When spending my holidays in Costa Rica in 2008 I climbed Chirripó. It is the highest mountain of Costa Rica. In the early morning when starting the trek the surrounding mountains presented themselves as shown on the picture.
